I DECIDED TO TRY AN ONLINE CONTEST this morning. I ended up sketching this guy (>>) last night while Lauri was hanging out with a friend, and decided that maybe he would fit into the latest imagineFX contest: "Acrobat". I've been looking at Paul Bonner quite a bit lately, and this was supposed to be a goblin inspired by him...I guess watching the Olympics this past week affected me more than I thought.

IT'S BEEN A WHILE since I updated anything here, but that's just because I got caught up in the internship for quite a while, and then got out of the practice of updating. Now...I won't make any promises, but I'm planning on keeping up with this.
Hopefully I'll be able to put some of the stuff from the internship up in the portfolio section pretty soon (sorry I haven't gotten it up earlier, Mom). I'm pretty sure I'll need to clear it with Sensory Sweep beforehand. Anyway, the internship was great. I learned more about Maya in the first few weeks than I learned about 3DS Max in the first 3 months at ITT Tech; and I learned a lot at ITT Tech.
I got a bike this past week! I found an old road bike on craigslist, and picked it up on Thursday. There were some pretty serious problems with it, but I think I worked through most of those. It's been a while since I've worked on a bike, so I missed a few things. In fact, I ended up at 7th East and 2100 South with a completely unridable bike. I ended up picking it up and walking six blocks home...that's six Salt Lake blocks, which are HUGE. It was a humbling experience to realize that I hadn't tightened the back wheel enough, and it got impacted against the frame. Oops.

I STARTED THE INTERNSHIP on Monday night. It was a little overwhelming at first, because I couldn't seem to wrap my head around the brief we were given. We were given the task of creating a "Science-Fiction" crate. Then we were shown some examples. I think that's when I should have just looked away. I knew that I didn't want to just create the same crates we were shown, but they were so cool, I just wanted to make the same crates SO BAD!
I ended up coming up with something fairly cool. It's got these "crab" feet that reach from the middle of the box & clamp down the lid. I think it will turn out...if I can stop breaking my computer.
Also, I started working on another project for Shinebox Media Productions. It's just a commercial, but I get to work with cool people, and do some cool stuff. I was up until about 3 this morning trying to get everything to work out the way I wanted it to; which was MUCH easier than last time.
Anyway, that's the news. Lauri is still stressed out about school. Teddy is still naughty. Donny still brings his bones on the bed even though he knows he shouldn't. I still can't seem to get to bed at a decent hour. I thought I was supposed to be able to take a break once I was done with school. Good grief.

WELL, THE SITE IS FINALLY UP. I'm pretty excited about that. I plan on keeping this space available for whatever I'm feeling. I'm imagining this as a blog where I can just rant and rave. Exciting! Oh yeah, the ***picture*** is a work in progress. We'll eventually have something cool going on up there...maybe a dragon or something.
I will be starting an internship with Sensory Sweep Studios (my good friend Steve Fox did the Sentient logo) tomorrow, and I'll have to let you know how it goes. It should be pretty awesome. We'll be studying Maya four days a week for two months. Hopefully, by the end of it all, I'll be ready to join the art department, and go on salary.
Lauri's been pretty excited about this new opportunity. We've both been pretty busy with school and work, and I think she's starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel now. We've had to put too much of our lives on hold for school, and now we'll be able to start living again. It's going to be great.

We decided to get some clippers, and tested them out on Teddy today. It was quite the experience. The floor of the bathroom ended up with a layer of dog hair about one inch thick. He looks pretty ridiculous. I wonder if this is how my mom felt when she started cutting our hair...
Anyway, that's the big news around here. I might or might not graduate, and Lauri is feeling the same way about her school. Wish us luck.
